Making Mental Health Affordable

Mental Health Care Plan

Medicare rebates are available for psychological treatment by registered and clinical psychologists under the Australian Government's Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative. This provides considerable assistance to people living with mental health problems, allowing them greater access to psychologists and providing more affordable mental healthcare.

You may be eligible for this assistance. Please talk to your GP about being referred to Switch Psychology under a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). You will then be able to see one of our Clinical Psychologists and each session you will receive a rebate of $131.65 per therapy session for 10 sessions. This will cover more than half of your expenses and a total $1,316.5 in rebates back in your pocket. You are entitled to these rebates every calendar year.

Chronic Management Plan

The Chronic Disease Management (CDM), previously known as an Enhanced Primary Care (ECP), is a government initiative that assists people living with a chronic or complex medical illness to get the support and help they need from allied health professionals. Chronic medical conditions that may be covered by the scheme must have been present, or are likely to be present, for six months or more.

A CDM Plan allows you to access up to five additional sessions with your Clinical Psychologist, beyond the initial 10 from your MHCP each calendar year. Your GP is required to prepare a management plan (GP Management Plan and Team Care Arrangements) so that your illness can be better managed with the assistance of allied health professionals.

At Switch Psychology, we understand that it is sometimes financially stressful to look after your mental health. This is why we have outlined the easiest way for you to access the best services in the most affordable way.
